A semi-fictional account of John Manjiro’s life in America between the years 1843 and 1850. Perhaps not exactly as it happened, but as it might have been.
Facing many hardships as a foreigner in a strange land, Manjiro survives by means of his constant longing to return home to Japan to see his mother again.
Episodes of bullying, racial discrimination, enmity and friendship, budding romance, mining for gold, gambling, violence and a jungle death.
An entertaining blend of historical fact, dramatic encounters, songs new and old, and Hawaiian dancing.
