PELLEAS & MELISANDE — The "P&M" Project 2009


A group of Old Members (OMs) of Reitaku University English Drama Group

presented a performance of Maurice Maeterlinck's symbolist tragedy         

PELLEAS & MELISANDE, as part of Reitaku's 50th Anniversary,

on October 3rd (Homecoming Day), 2009, at the Small Theatre.

It was also a memorial to fourteen OMs who sadly passed away

during the last 20 years. Directed by GAVIN BANTOCK.

R.U.E.D.G.'s Director Merwyn Torikian co-directed and also took part,

with other academic staff of the university and from Meitoku Gijuku.

The cast included six OMs over 50 years of age, and six over 40,

as well as Merwyn’s three children. See PHOTOS on next website page.  


LITTLE WOMEN

MEITOKU INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS performed a stage adaptation of the American classic LITTLE WOMEN by Louis M. Alcott. Adapted & directed by Gavin Bantock, this was staged at the Green Hall of Kochi Bunka Kaikan on Friday, 27th November, 2009 at 6pm. The four sisters were acted by Korean Meitoku students. Also in the cast were one other Korean student, a Thai student, two Australian students, and five Japanese students, as well as two members of Reitaku University English Drama Group.


THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR

MEITOKU INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS performed THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR by William Shakespeare at Haruno Bunka Hall Pia Stage, Kochi City, at 6.00pm on Friday, 26 June, 2009. This is Shakespeare's most farcical comedy—about the famous character Sir John Falstaff pretending to be in love with two wives of Windsor, in order to obtain their husbands' money. A highly visual production and good fun for all age groups! Directed by GAVIN BANTOCK & OSAMU YAMADA. See photo above centre.


THE MAGIC FLUTE

MEITOKU INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS performed THE MAGIC FLUTE

at 6.00pm on Friday, 28 November, 2008 at the Green Hall in Kochi City.

This story of Mozart's opera was performed without Mozart's music, as a

fascinating drama of romance, mysticism, comedy & fantasy. Special

incidental music was composed by Merwyn Torikian.

Directed by GAVIN BANTOCK. A cast of over 20 included students

from Korea & Thailand & 4 from Reitaku University English Drama Group.



 

 

  ALADDIN  (Meitoku’s 35th Production)


     MEITOKU INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS performed

            ‘ALADDIN & HIS WONDERFUL LAMP’

                      on Friday, 25th June, 2010,

   at Haruno Bunka Hall Pia Stage, Kochi City, at 6.00pm.


One of the most popular stories from THE ARABIAN NIGHTS,

it was adapted and directed by Gavin Bantock.    The cast

included students from Japan, Korea and Hong Kong, and one

Australian. Greatly enhanced by 15 members of Meitoku Gijuku’s

Marching Band Club and 10 members of the Japanese Drum Club,

the performance was enthusiastically received by the audience

of all ages.
